Danny Calero

Here are some of Calero’s reworked Carhartt jackets:

I reached out to Calero on Instagram to ask a few questions and to my surprise he responded!

Danny Calero is a Tacoma-based upcycling designer whose love for vintage clothes has evolved into a sustainable fashion line. Calero learned how to sew in the summer of 2021 and, by December, began posting his work on social media. He drew inspiration from a mixture of 90’s vintage, 2000’s punk, and modern eclectic fashion. His biggest inspirations include Nicole McLaughlin, Jerry Lorezno, and Jake Zielinski. Calero, like myself, has a genuine appreciation for second-hand clothing. He says there is no greater satisfaction than knowing each piece he curates is a unique way for its new owner to express themselves creatively.

Calero designs and creates reworked jackets by using authentic Carhartt material and labels deconstructed from old Carhartt garments. Each jacket is one of one and all follow a similar patch work pattern. They range from hoodies to Detroit style jackets, which were known for their toughness on the backs of warehouse workers, farmhands, and ranchers across America.
“ The kids that are screen printing tees in a garage, distressing jeans, upcyling vintage and hand painting shirts are the ones that will take over the luxury retail streets in the next 5 years” -Quote by Danny Calero, taken from Instagram. Words like these give a student like me, who’s incredibly interested in up cycling vintage clothes, more motivation and inspiration than anything!
