Margaret Howell

How Margaret Howell practises sustainability

Margaret Howell is a contemporary British clothing designer. Established in 1970 and incorporated in 1987. Protecting the environment has always been an important part of  Howells’ company and to those who play a role in making her clothing. Like any business that manufactures, there will always be an amount of damage caused to the environment. However Margaret Howell tries to reduce the damage done, by limiting production to runs of carefully designed and chosen items, which will minimise customers over-ordering. Howell has always enjoyed sourcing her fabrics from local industries and supporting traditional crafts, building long term partnerships with trusted independent suppliers who share the same values as Howell and those who work with her. 95% of the companies suppliers are based in Europe which means they can be visited regularly to ensure the highest standards of production and to ensure their supplier code of conduct is always met. The supplier code of conduct entails of “safe and hygienic working conditions, non excessive working hours and ensuring living wages are paid.”
